Kitten rescued from chimney has found a forever home

The story of a stray kitten stuck in a drainpipe begins a new chapter.

TMJ4 first met Piper the kitten after members of the community and rescue organization. Chained dogs MKEspent days trying to free her from an underground drainage pipe in her Milwaukee home.

On Monday she finally met her new family.

“She was so sweet and something clicked and I just fell in love with her,” Kathleen Gomez said.

Gomez was one of many anxious eyes watching Piper’s rescue in real time.

“I just started watching and got hooked,” she told TMJ4.

When she saw that Piper had been safely rescued, she and her partner Matt Tess immediately wrote their names in the hat to give her a new home.

While Piper took some time to grow up in a foster home, Chained Dogs MKE was also able to rescue her homeless brother Pops.

“We talked and thought we couldn’t separate them,” Gomez said.

That’s how two homeless siblings ended up in the arms of Gomez and Tess.

“It makes me extremely happy,” Tess said. “These are special cats and we want to give them everything they deserve.”

It was a full circle moment for Chained Dogs employee Janelle Westbrook, who pulled Piper out of the sewer a few weeks ago.

“Move from the pipe to this? It’s great,” Westbrook said. “It’s great that they will be going to their forever home together.”

Westbrook says these moments show why the work they do is so important.

“We’re just an organization trying to help where we can.”

Now that all the action is over, this brother-sister duo can focus on their new life with their new family.
