  • I haven’t played sports for almost two years.
  • There also appears to be a shopping list for conspiracy theories.

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has always moved to the beat of his own drum, and he seems to have some rather unusual beliefs when it comes to some very well-established facts about planet Earth.

After two years away from the ATP Tour due to injury, Kyrgios plans to finally return to professional tennis in December ahead of a new assault at the Australian Open.

The 29-year-old has had a rollercoaster ride throughout his career, including reaching the Wimbledon final and winning the Australian Open doubles title.

However, he also experienced setbacks, including becoming the most fined player in tennis history due to his short temper and tendency to give up when things didn’t go his way.

On the eve of his dramatic return to the Australian Open, Kyrgios spoke with the popular British documentary filmmaker. Louis Theroux Podcast about everything from his mental health to his high-profile battle with the bottle.

Kyrgios often takes an alternative point of view on most things, so Theroux decided to check in with the Australian star to find out his stance on some popular conspiracy theories, starting with the shape of the planet.

A growing number of conspiracy theorists believe the Earth is flat because they doubt scientific discoveries.

They claim that the Earth appears flat based on everyday experience, and they also question photographs and evidence of a round Earth, often because they do not trust governments or scientists.

Science has plenty of evidence against these ideas.but Kyrgios was not convinced.

“I’d probably be inclined to say it’s round, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was something else. Maybe we should have a beer and record this informally,” he joked.

Theroux then asked the tennis star if he believed the ancient Egyptians were capable of building pyramids.

“No, I don’t (think so). This is impossible,” Kyrgios said.

“This is crazy. The fact is that how is it possible that they (the Egyptians) made all the measurements correctly and they are all aligned.

“And ‘they did it by rolling big rocks over logs’ is crazy.” Why are the doors so big?

“Like, who needs to go through the doors if they’re so big?” I don’t know who it was.

“I just don’t think we were capable of it. It’s 2024 and we can’t even get along. And you think we built pyramids? You’re crazy. This is crazy.

Historical artifacts have shown that the Egyptians ensured accurate construction of the pyramids, using tools such as cubit pins for standard measurements, as well as leveling tools such as plumb lines (precursors to levels) and sighting tools for leveling.

Large doors allowed for the movement of materials, but were also a symbol of the pharaohs’ power, creating a majestic and visually impressive entrance to their tombs.

The matter did not end there.

Another popular conspiracy theory is that the moon landing never happened and was instead filmed on a Hollywood sound stage.

Kyrgios seems to believe this too.

“I have my own thoughts on this,” he said.
