Naqoura, Lebanon: A rocket hit the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Tuesday afternoon, setting a car workshop on fire.

Fortunately, the UN peacekeepers were not in their bunkers at the time of the attack. Some were slightly injured, but fortunately no serious injuries were reported, UNIFIL said.

“This afternoon a rocket hit the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura, setting a car workshop on fire. There were no peacekeepers in the bunkers at the time. Although some peacekeepers were slightly injured, fortunately no one was seriously injured…”, – the department said in a statement. .

The rocket is believed to have been fired from north of UNIFIL headquarters, likely by Hezbollah or an affiliated group. An investigation into the incident has been launched.

UNIFIL sternly reminded Hezbollah and all parties involved of their obligations to protect UN personnel and property. The organization said any deliberate attack on UN forces constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

This incident highlights the urgent need for all actors in the region to meet their obligations to ensure the safety and security of peacekeeping missions.
