The lyrics go, “Oh this freedom that I found, baby, of course it wasn’t free/I owe you a lifetime of apologies/Now I’m telling the truth/I loved you so much/I’m sorry I lied about you.” who I was.”

Lambert lived through these difficult times and realized that the breakdown of their marriage was not just one person’s fault. “Miranda is older and wiser now, and she no longer places all the blame on Blake,” an insider told the publication. “Now it still gives her fodder for writing hits!” She opened up Diversity in September about “Run” and why McLaughlin convinced her to record the song even though fans think it’s all about Shelton.

“You know, I just wasn’t ready to record this song yet,” she admitted. “Because I’ve been writing songs like this my whole career, but they’ve never been a very comfortable place… I promised to tell the truth when I started this journey, and that’s what I’m doing.” Although she admitted that she was a little uncomfortable being so open about former relationship and as she grew from it, Lambert also knows that some of her best songs came from here.

“For my fans who stick with me, I promised myself to tell my real, honest stories and the real, sincere truth. I promised myself and them that I would do this, and that’s why I can’t give it up now,” she added. “And also, some of the greatest songs in the world, the ones I loved more than anything in the world, wouldn’t exist.”

Lambert has moved on from Shelton and is excited about the future, but that doesn’t mean she won’t revisit the past to learn from those mistakes.
