Jeffrey Morrison pleaded guilty Tuesday to two felonies in Judge Toni Terrett’s courtroom. He is charged with attempting to escape from prison and attempted aggravated assault on a police officer.

Morrison was represented by lawyer Yemi Kings. Branon Sutherland represented the prosecution.

The incident, which occurred during Morrison’s incarceration, occurred in September 2022 and involved Morrison attacking a jailer who was trying to fill his water bottle, Sutherland said. At the time, Morrison was in custody on an aggravated assault charge.

Morrison allegedly began a physical altercation with the officer, during which he bit the officer, tearing his clothing and breaking his skin. Sutherland said the officer was left with a scar from the incident.

Although the jury had already been selected and seated, Morrison said Tuesday morning that he wanted to change his guilty plea.

Morrison also faces another, unrelated charge of assaulting a police officer. These charges are pending.

Terrett accepted Morrison’s plea and set a sentencing date of Nov. 15. Morrison faces up to 35 years in prison on the charges.
