Emergency workers in Harwich rescued a child stuck in a hole on the beach Monday, authorities said.

Harwich firefighters said in a Facebook post that they responded to Brooks Road Beach on Monday evening. There, firefighters said, they found the child sitting in a hole three feet wide and three feet deep, buried up to his chest.

Firefighters began to “carefully” begin digging out the child, the report said. Emergency workers brought protective tubing to keep the child safe while they continued to dig.

The report said firefighters, along with Harwich police officers, exhumed the child within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Harwich Beach rules and regulations stipulate that a child under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. According to the document, violators are subject to arrest and a fine of up to $50. It is unclear whether the child was under supervision when he became trapped in the hole.
