Super Eagles striker Olayinka undergoes successful surgery

Nigeria striker Peter Olayinka is now ready for a long spell on the sidelines after successful surgery on an Achilles tendon injury.

Olayinka was replaced last week in Red Star Belgrade’s UEFA Champions League match with Monaco due to injury.

Red Star Belgrade have now confirmed that he has gone under the knife following the setback.

“Peter Olayinka was successfully operated on in Finland by a renowned doctor after suffering an Achilles tendon injury due to a blow he received during a match in Monaco,” the club said in a statement.

“Everything went well, and we are waiting for the end of the postoperative period to assess the timing of the return of the Zvezda football player. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to the field!”

The striker is expected to spend between six and nine months on the sidelines.

This season he has scored two goals and provided two assists in six Belgrade league matches.
