Vaping tax will be introduced in 2026, Chancellor confirms

A vaping tax will be introduced in the UK in 2026, the Chancellor has confirmed.

Rachel Reeves made the announcement in the House of Commons on Wednesday during the presentation of the autumn budget.

The flat rate of duty of £2.20 per 10ml of liquid will come into force on 1 October 2026.

This means a small bottle of vape juice that costs just £1 will instead cost £3.20 – a 220% increase in price.

The government said the new duty is to “discourage non-smokers and young people from vaping”.

There will also be a one-off tariff increase on tobacco products to encourage vapers to choose refillable products over cigarettes.

The Chancellor also announced that conscription duty on alcoholic drinks would fall by 1.7%, which means “a penny on a pub pint”.
