Nina Dobrev and Shaun White are engaged: “rest in peace, man”

Two years after his retirement, Shaun White pulled off his greatest stunt.

The three-time Olympian announced his engagement to “The Vampire Diaries” alum Nina Dobrev on Wednesday after five years of dating.

“She said YES,” White wrote with Instagram carousel of photos with a picturesque offer. He also shared some cute pictures on his Instagram storycalling the late October evening “the best night of my life.”

Dobrev also posted announcement she herself quipped, “RIP boyfriend, hi groom,” and included several excerpts from the same batch of engagement photos. In one of them, she presses her hands – one, of course, studded with diamonds – to her mouth in amazement.

That look of surprise was hard earned, White said. Fashion in an interview published Wednesday.

White’s original plan to propose during the couple’s summer vacation, he told the publication, was derailed when Dobrev injured her knee in a dirt bike accident. He later abandoned the plan to coincide with their planned November trip to Cape Town, South Africa, because Dobrev seemed suspicious to him and he was expecting a real surprise.

So White hatched his ultimate plan: Hire his publicist to send his current fiancée a fake invitation to a business dinner with Anna Wintour at the Golden Swan restaurant in New York. Dobrev agreed.

“He made the invitation seem so legitimate,” Dobrev told Vogue. When she arrived, she was shocked to find Sean under an arch of white roses.

“I just froze and stared at him,” she told the publication, and then – like a broken record – she continued to say: “No, no, no!”

Dobrev and White first met during a brief encounter at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards, but officially met several years later at a seminar in Florida hosted by motivational speaker Tony Robbins. They formalized their relationship in 2020.

The two supported each other during the COVID-19 quarantine, White said. People in 2021, and Dobrev held the athlete on the ground during his final olympic race in Beijing.

“Nina is incredible. What an impact on my life,” he said. “Not only does she run her own show, her own world, the companies she’s in, the things she produces, and all this stuff that’s going on. She holds me to the same high standard that is so nice to have in a partner.”

Celebrating White’s birthday in September, Dobrev said there were “too many photos, too many adventures, too many laughs, too many cute moments” to fit into one post.
