Google CEO Sundar Pichai said more than a quarter of new Google product code is now generated by artificial intelligence systems, with human programmers reviewing and accepting only computer-generated contributions.

“We’re also using AI internally to improve our coding processes, which improves productivity and efficiency,” Pichai said during Google’s third-quarter 2024 conference call on Tuesday.

Google also uses AI to make money. Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, shared impressive financial results thanks to the use of artificial intelligence.

The company reported a whopping $88.3 billion in revenue for the quarter, with revenue from Google services (including search) coming in at $76.5 billion, up 13 percent year over year.

While Google Cloud, which includes artificial intelligence infrastructure products for other companies, earned $11.4 billion, up 35 percent from last year.

“In search, our new artificial intelligence features expand what people can search for and how they search for it,” CEO Sundar Pichai said in a statement.

He further added, “In the cloud, our AI solutions help drive deeper product adoption by existing customers, attract new customers and close larger deals. And YouTube’s total advertising and subscription revenue topped $50 billion for the first time in four quarters.”

Despite good earnings, Google is facing difficult times as a US court ruled that Google has a monopoly in the search and advertising markets, potentially paving the way for serious regulatory action.
