Yankees Lose to Dodgers in World Series After Taking a Five-Run Lead in Game 5 (Highlights)

The New York Yankees’ season ended after a 7-6 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday night in the Bronx.

There were a number of missteps and blunders as New York blew a 5-0 lead, lost the game and extended its World Series drought to 15 years.

The Yankees continued their offensive momentum from Tuesday night before as Aaron Judge hit his first home run of the series in the first inning, a two-out double to give New York a 2–0 lead. Jazz Chisholm Jr. followed that with a solo homer to make it 3-0.

New York added runs in the second and third on Alex Verdugo’s RBI single and Giancarlo Stanton’s solo shot to make it 5-0, but the Yankees quickly fell behind.

The defense completely fell apart in the fifth, allowing the Dodgers to score five unearned runs against Gerrit Cole to tie the game. Stanton hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to retake the lead, but Los Angeles took the lead in the eighth.

The Yankees got two on base in the bottom of the eighth after Judge doubled and Chisholm Jr. singled, but they were unable to get anyone over the plate. In the bottom of the ninth, Walker Buehler took the final out of New York’s lineup to clinch the World Series victory.
