Drug treatment center will pay compensation due to claims of insurance fraud

QUINCY — A drug treatment center has agreed to pay $650,000 in restitution to settle complaints filed by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell’s office alleging the company overbilled Mass Health for services it never provided and overcharged for other services. according to the press release.

Since back in 2018, the Quincy-based Develop health Mass Health routinely billed for urine tests it never provided, the press release said.

“Evolve did not own the equipment necessary to conduct confirmatory urine tests,” the press release states.

The investigation by the Attorney General’s Office’s Medicaid Fraud Section also concluded that Evolve “updated codes” on office visits, billing Mass Health for longer and more complex services than they actually provided.

In addition to the financial reimbursement, Evolve Health has agreed to a three-year monitoring program at its own expense, which will include annual audits.

Evolve Health was founded in 2015 and has offices in Quincy, Brockton and Worcester, according to its website. Specializes in the treatment of patients suffering from opioid and heroin addiction, as well as alcoholism.

Representatives for Evolve Health declined to comment for this story.
