Herne Bay Arcade will be demolished in the spring

A derelict seaside arcade is set to be demolished.

Canterbury City Council bought the former Tivoli Amusements building on Central Parade in Herne Bay for £1.1 million in 2018, but it failed to attract a buyer when the council tried to sell the building.

The building has been abandoned since then.

At a full council meeting on October 24, cabinet member for economic development Chris Cornell said the building would be demolished in spring 2025.

Mr Cornell said the first phase of demolition was completed in the summer, leaving only the adjacent apartment complex and the former Tivoli Arcade façade.

“The second phase of physical work will also include the demolition of the former Tivoli Arcade shopping centre,” he said.

Website options, including selling it or developing it yourself or with a partner.

Permission has been granted to redevelop the land behind the arcade into three shops and 31 homes, according to police. Local Democracy Reporting Service.
