There seem to be fewer images of “real” ghosts than ever before. And that’s perhaps because the advent of digital editing software—and, more recently, smartphone filters—has taught us to view any photography that doesn’t quite live up to a growing degree of skepticism. Indeed, it has never been easier to fake convincing paranormal illusions.

So this Halloween, I’m going to show you how to create five creepy and chilling ghost portraits to give you the creeps. Instagram followers, friends and family.
