Not the most promising start for the Down Under Indians as India A managed just 107 runs in their first innings of the first unofficial Test against Australia A on Thursday.

A precursor to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the next entrants from each country will go head-to-head at the Great Barrier Reef arena for their first four-day Test.

Having lost the toss, India were sent out to bat first and what followed would be nothing short of a collapse.

Australia A’s Brendan Doggett ran riot over India A with his magical spell of 6/15 in 11 overs, completely decimating the batters.

Veteran domestic cricket campaigners like Abimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Baba Indrajit, Ishan Kishan will all fall to the pitiful single-digit scores while Doggett and Buckingham wreak havoc with the new ball.

Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal and a surprise cameo from Navdeep Saini will make the difference for India, who barely limped to 100 runs before being bowled out once and for all for 107 runs.

It remains to be seen how India A will respond with the ball.

For Australia, the series will give them a chance to find their next Test start after Steve Smith decided to drop back to the middle order. Cameron Bancroft, Marcus Harris and Nathan McSweeney are among the favourites.
