Jim Jordan says YouTube censored Joe Rogan’s interview with Trump

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, blames YouTube for potential crackdown former President Trump interview with podcast host Joe Rogan.

In a letter to Alphabet CEO Sundar Pitchai sent late Wednesday, Jordan said the tech giant’s subsidiary “appears to have censored the video of Joe Rogan’s recent interview with President Donald Trump.”

“We are writing to get immediate information on (1) YouTube’s decision to censor Joe Rogan’s interview with President Trump; and (2) being picked up on Google Search for material critical of the interview,” Jordan wrote.

The Ohio Republican quoted New York Post The report said people had difficulty finding the three-hour interview on YouTube.

“Recent news reports that ‘a YouTube search using the terms ‘Joe Rogan Trump’ or ‘Joe Rogan Donald Trump’ did not bring up Friday’s three-hour sit-down at the top of the list,” the letter said. said

The report claims that the full interview was also “missing” from YouTube’s trending videos page the next day.

Jordan also said YouTube admitted to “censoring” the interview, citing a statement posted on X earlier this week that said: “For some searches on Monday, the original three-hour interview did not appear prominently. Short excerpts uploaded by Joe Rogan’s channel have appeared, but we know this is frustrating for users who want to find the full video.”

“We’ve been working to resolve this issue, and viewers will soon begin seeing the full podcast in YouTube’s advanced search results,” the statement said.

Jordan wrote in his letter to Alphabet: “Americans deserve access to political speech, especially in the final weeks before the election.”

“Given the company’s recent history of censorship, including at the direction of the Biden-Harris Administration, YouTube’s censorship of former President Trump is particularly troubling,” he wrote.

“I request that this briefing be arranged as soon as possible, but no later than 10:00 am on November 14, 2024.”

Republicans have in the past accused Google of censoring speech. Most recently, Missouri’s attorney general said it would investigate the company, although Google called the allegations “completely false” in a statement to Reuters.

As of Wednesday evening, Rogan’s interview with Trump had received more than 41 million views. on YouTube.
