When Aishwarya Rai claimed she hid her pregnancy from a Bollywood director and left him in “total shock and depression” until Kareena Kapoor Khan saved his dream film!

We all know how Kareena Kapoor Khan walked out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. She signed on the dotted line and took the original amount, but things didn’t work out in the end. It was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who eventually starred opposite Salman Khan. But remember how things changed in 2012 when a Bollywood director accused Aish of hiding her pregnancy? Aishwarya is married to Amitabh Bachchan’s son and actor Abhishek Bachchan. They fell in love on the set Doom 2 and tied the knot a year later, in 2007. The duo welcomed their first child, daughter Aaradhya, in 2011.

Many didn’t know, but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the first choice for the role of Heroine (2012). Director Madhur Bhandarkar has started pre-production in full swing keeping the Guru actress in mind. Only later did he find out through gossip that the actress was expecting her first child, which could have “sabotaged” the film of his dreams.

Madhur Bhandarkar decided not to cast Aishwarya Rai in the role because the filming required visiting 40 locations, physical activity and smoking! He was also left in “shock and depression” as the actress was 6-7 months pregnant, approximately 65 days before filming.

The Heroine director told the Indian Express, “The lead actress had to smoke on screen… but even if she decided not to smoke in front of the camera. In the same frame, other actors also smoke, which entails passive smoking, which can harm the health of a pregnant woman. The truth was hidden from us. The whole crisis would have taken on colossal forms if the truth had not been revealed when it was…”

Later, Kareena Kapoor Khan became the leading actress. This also angered Amitabh Bachchan, who defended his bahu and said there was nothing wrong with getting married and getting pregnant.
