Google Maps will use artificial intelligence to answer questions about the new restaurant you want to try

Google Maps is I’m getting a big update this should help you find new places to visit using AI. Starting this week, you’ll be able to explore more places using immersive viewing and search for specific places using descriptive queries like “things to do with friends at night.”

Google will then use its Gemini AI model to create “inspirational collections” that fit that description. For late-night options, Google Maps can find places categorized as “diners” or “live music” venues. Meanwhile, organic search results remain under these collections.

Google Maps will allow you to enter a question or select one of the AI-generated questions.

But that’s not all the AI features Google is adding to Maps. Clicking on a location will show you an AI-generated summary of user reviews, as well as a prompt to “Ask Maps for this location.” Here you can enter a question and Maps will use Gemini to provide an AI-generated answer based on what it has collected from the feedback.

During a press briefing, Google Maps head Miriam Daniel demonstrated how this could work by selecting a restaurant and entering the question “Quiet atmosphere?” Google Maps then returned a response saying the place had a “live atmosphere and cozy atmosphere.” Below the answer you will see the reviews that Gemini used to justify its answer. These features will roll out to Android and iOS this week in the US, building on the artificial intelligence integration Google began experimenting with earlier this year.

“We wanted to make sure that everything we show in this experience is fresh and factual,” Daniel said. “With 100 million updates happening every day, we can draw from this updated, fresh information to inform Gemini’s results… ensuring that the results show real locations on the map.”
