Sean McVay appears to regret selling Ernest Jones

As good as the tandem of Sean McVay and Les Snead has been in Los Angeles, they haven’t gotten the best bang for their buck when it comes to trading players like Jalen Ramsey, Marcus Peters, and now Ernest Jones.

At that time the decision to trade Jones just before Week 1 was curious. What they received in return was even more shocking. Along with Jones, the Rams traded a 2026 sixth-round draft pick to the Titans for a 2026 fifth-rounder—essentially moving up just one round in exchange for one of the team’s top cornerbacks.

We haven’t gotten full details on the reasons behind this mysterious deal, but it looks like McVay has some regrets about it. Now that Jones is in Seattle after the Titans traded him to the Seahawks last week… more than the Rams received in their tradeNote that McVay was asked about the deal and how it went down.

“I think I’m happy with some of the things the guys have done. It would be hard to deny his production when you look at what he did in Tennessee and even in his first week (at Seattle) last week,” McVay said. “He’s a great player and has done a lot of good things for us. I think all the decisions we make at the moment we feel like it are in our best interests. I’m not going to pretend and act like every decision is right. You try to learn from it and apply it moving forward, but you know you’re playing against a really respected player who is mentally and physically tough. He always seems to be around football. I wish him all the best and it will be a big challenge to fight him.”

Jones seemed to be playing well for the Titans before they unexpectedly traded him to the Seahawks for Jerome Baker and a fourth-round pick, but he has already made a positive impact on the Seahawks.

In his first game with Seattle, just four days after being traded to the Seahawks, he made 15 tackles and played every snap. He’s always been a dynamic playmaker in the middle of the defense, especially against the run and as a blitzer, and there’s no doubt the Rams could use him right now.

Troy Rieder and Christian Roseboom haven’t played well, and Rieder is currently on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Omar Speights has a promising future, but he’s a far cry from where Jones is now as a player.

Don’t be surprised if Jones plays a big game against his former team on Sunday, reminding them what they traded for a bag of peanuts.
