Microsoft shares pricing information for Windows 10 Extended Security Updates for consumers

Microsoft announced last year Windows 10 Extended Security Updates Program This will allow organizations that are not yet ready to move to Windows 11 to continue to receive security updates for the OS after support ends on October 14, 2025. For the first time, this program will also be available to consumers. using Windows 10 computers.

Microsoft has already shared pricing information for this Extended Security Updates program for organizations: It will cost $61 per year to get Windows 10 updates for a single device, and that price will double every year thereafter. There will also be special pricing for non-profits and organizations that choose to receive ESU updates through Intune or Windows Autopatch. However, because Extended Security Updates are cumulative, organizations joining the program for the second year will also be required to pay for the first year of updates.

Today Microsoft introduced How the Windows 10 ESU program will work for consumers who would like to continue to safely use the OS after its support period ends. This program will only provide security updates for an additional year and will be available for $30. The company plans to share more details about the registration closer to October 2025.

Windows 11 will remain available as a free update on Windows 10 devices that meet minimum hardware requirements, including the latest processors with the TPM 2.0 security chip. Windows 10 users can check Windows Update to see if their PC is eligible for the update, and the operating system will begin notifying users when support ends in October 2025.

Microsoft designed Windows 11 to make it more secure with features like Secure Boot, virtualization-based security, memory integrity, and intelligent application control. However, Microsoft says that organizations that really take security seriously should consider upgrading their PC fleet.

“New Windows 11 PCs are more secure, with a 62% reduction in security incidents and a 3x reduction in firmware attacks,” said Yousuf Mehdi, executive vice president and chief consumer marketing officer at Microsoft. “At a premium price, Co-pilot+ PC provide even greater protection, including memory integrity, a secure core PC experience, enhanced Windows Hello login security, and a built-in Microsoft Pluton Security processor.”

Although support for Windows 10 will end in a year, Microsoft while continuing to add new features to the OS, such as the new Copilot assistant.. Earlier this year, the Windows Insider program also introduced new beta channel for Windows 10 users interested in trying out the new features of Windows 10 version 22H2, which is the latest version of the OS.
