Coldstream Council has agreed to fund an additional ,000 to replace the Rotary Pier at Cal Lake – Vernon News

Coldstream County has approved additional money to replace an aging rotating pier on Lake Kalamalka.

The popular pier needed replacement after 2022 study I discovered that the piles were rotting.

At its regular meeting Monday, Coldstream council approved up to $34,000 in additional funding to install additional steel pipes for the Cal Beach Pier.

The report to council states that “there is a contract in place that has not been breached, but it has simply resulted in additional costs that were not contemplated at the time the contract was awarded.”

The contractor purchased materials and began manufacturing the support in his warehouse.

“This is a custom project that cannot easily be adapted to another project; “Coldstream will therefore be required to reimburse the contractor for its operating costs or face legal action,” the report states.

“The request to fund additional steel piles above the original contract is $9,000 less than the next lowest bid submitted for the project.”

On June 26, 2023, the Authority issued a request for proposals to restore or reconstruct the Cal Beach Pier. It ended with seven proposals submitted. Burton Pile Driving was awarded a $516,416 contract to reconstruct the pier using steel pilings, treated wood beams and composite decking.

The report states that a piling pattern consistent with similar projects was provided, but as the project progressed through the environmental process, additional design review was required to ensure the piling pattern would be strong enough to withstand conditions around lake waves from intense waves. storms that happen on lakes.

During the review, the consulting engineer required the piles to be spaced 12 feet apart instead of the originally proposed 16 feet, which resulted in an increase in prices: the total cost of the project is now $550,416.
