As the West Valley expands its transportation systems, cities are trying different forms of innovative transportation to keep traffic to a minimum.

WeRIDE is currently running in the West Valley cities of Avondale, Goodyear and Surprise. Starting November 2, the service will operate on Saturdays in Avondale.

The West Valley, and especially the Southwest Valley, lacks the public transportation available in cities like Scottsdale and Phoenix. However, WeRIDE is an affordable option implemented by cities.

WeRIDE was initially implemented in late 2022 by Avondale and Goodyear. This is a microtransit program that offers residents a ride to a drop-off location within a 10-minute walk of all areas of the city and stops at shopping centers, medical facilities, recreational facilities, businesses and public places.

WeRIDE currently averages 400 rides per day in Avondale, up from 93 in 2022. Its purpose was to help reduce road congestion and improve accessibility.

All WeRIDE rides cost $2 or less, making them much more affordable than popular ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft. Reservations can also be made through the mobile app.

The city offers this service on Saturdays due to growing demand from the public. It will be available from 8am to 5pm on Saturdays, in addition to the usual 6am to 8pm times during the week.

WeRIDE is available in Goodyear Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. At Suprise it is also available on weekdays from 6:00 to 19:00.

On Saturday the fare will remain the same.
