Fallen trees from Hurricane Helen were used to repair damage at Glenwood Park.

MERCER COUNTY, WVVA (WVVA) – Parts of Glenwood Park were heavily damaged by the remnants of Hurricane Helen, leaving several buildings and shelters unusable.

Several trees fell during the storm and still remain on the property, but Mercer County is now working with the USDA Forest Service to harvest that lumber and restore what was lost.

The Mercer County Commission President believes this partnership will help quickly get the park back up and running.

“It’s very rewarding for us to be able to partner with them and be able to provide the wood we need to rebuild the structures that were destroyed by the hurricane,” Bill Archer said.

Archer continues: He hopes to have the lumber ready for construction in the spring.

We will continue to monitor developments here.
