Brandon Moreno lays out his retirement plans, and it’s coming sooner than you think.

Brandon Moreno doesn’t think he’ll be fighting into his 40s, or even close to it for that matter.

Former champion officially retired: “I begged the UFC for another fight”

The two-time UFC flyweight champion is still young at 30, but nothing lasts forever: Moreno knows the day will come when he will eventually hang up the gloves for good. However, Moreno’s retirement deadline may come sooner rather than later, with him competing in his 32nd fight as a pro this weekend in the main event of UFC Edmonton.

After suffering back-to-back losses to Alexander Pantoja and Brandon Royval, Moreno is hoping to redeem himself with a win over top-ranked Amir Albazi and potentially get back into title contention ahead of his 31st birthday in December.

Champion or not, Moreno says he would like to retire from MMA earlier than most fighters who walk out the door, no later than 34 years old.

“So I have a very clear goal. I don’t put any extra pressure on myself, but I want to retire young. I think maybe at 33 or 34,” Moreno said. Demetrius Johnson his pension plans.

“A lot of people (say) like, ‘Man, you’re really young…’ Like, yeah, I’m very young. My spirit is amazing. Now I feel like I’m 20. But my body, I’m starting this sport very young with bad habits like don’t use hats, don’t do this and don’t treat my injuries (not) doing physical therapy, all these bad habits, I’m starting feel it right. Now. That’s why I want to leave the sport healthy.”

Moreno is not only a fan favorite at flyweight, he is also a family man, which is another reason to leave the sport, as he plans to do in 3-4 years.

“I want to try to enjoy my family a little more. I want to be present in the lives of my daughters, my wife, that’s all,” Moreno added. “I have a very long career. “I’ve been playing this sport for many years and I think it’s smart to retire at this age.”
