With heavy snow falling in Minnesota on Thursday, people are remembering the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 like it was yesterday.

The bright orange colors of fall have been drenched in the whiteness of winter, and the fresh powder is bringing back old memories for some St. Louis Park residents.

“It’s covered in snow. Yeah, that’s the icing on the cake, so to speak,” the St. Louis Park resident told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.

It sounds like a tall tale, but on October 31, 1991, a snowstorm became a reality for Minnesotans. Every October this story takes on new life.

CONNECTED: Why are Minnesotans still talking about the Great Halloween Blizzard of 1991, 30 years later?

“I remember I had a little Honda Accord. The buses were stuck,” said a resident. “I kind of hibernated for the rest of the day.”

Families faced plummeting temperatures and strong winds as they struggled through mounds of snow.

If you fast forward 33 years later, the snow is still no match for Minnesotans or their pets as some brave the temperatures while hiking the Lake of the Isles.

The snow forecast for this Halloween doesn’t come close to the 1991 forecast, but it’s never too early.

Mother Nature always has an ace up her sleeve.

“I’m only calling this a stunt because it was 80 degrees earlier this week,” said a Minnesota woman walking her dog.
