What You Need to Know About Roundabouts Coming to Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – Big changes are coming to some of Pueblo’s roads. The City of Pueblo is introducing more roundabouts at intersections that have already seen fatal or serious crashes.

This is part of the city’s project to improve intersection safety. The roundabout built as part of this project could be located at Jackson Street and W. Adams Avenue.

Other intersections where new roundabouts will be built include Berkeley and Mesa Avenues, Dillon Dr. and Eagleridge Boulevard. and 13th Street and Grand Avenue.

However, city officials are concerned that Pueblo residents don’t know how to properly use roundabouts, so they want to remind them of some important rules to follow.

When a person is in the roundabout portion of a roundabout, they have the right of way. Another rule that public works officials told 11 News is that sometimes large vehicles like semis and buses have the right of way.

City officials hope to prevent and reduce the number of serious and fatal accidents by installing these roundabouts.

City of Pueblo Public Works Director Andrew Hayes told 11 News, “The severity of crashes is one of the things that roundabouts can help with.” Hayes continues to say, “Generally speaking, we’re seeing fewer fatalities and serious injury crashes on them. So it may or may not reduce the overall number of accidents, but the severity and the overall cost to the public… We want to make sure that the public is safer and that, again, our limited resources are being used efficiently. to reduce the danger to our drivers.”

Hayes also says you can expect to see the next roundabout at Berkeley Avenue and Mesa Avenue sometime next year.
