Michael Luttig criticized Trump on CNN for attacking Liz Cheney

CNN Keith Bolduan talked to a retired judge Michael Luttig on Friday morning around Donald Trump shocking comments, attacking Liz Cheney the night before during a call in which Luttig denounced Trump’s rhetoric as “un-American.”

Bolduan began his segment by noting, “Liz Cheney responds to these dangerous and reckless comments from Donald Trump last night.” CNN then showed a clip of these Trump comments in Arizona:

She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put it where the rifle is, and it’s being shot with nine barrels. Fine. Let’s see how she feels about this. You know, when the gun is pointed at her face.

“Liz Cheney said this this morning, and I quote in response: “This is how dictators destroy free nations. They threaten death to those who oppose them,” Bolduan continued, adding:

Comments such as repeated talk of an internal enemy have characterized Trump’s recent presidency and candidacy. An NPR analysis found that Donald Trump has made more than 100 threats since 2022 in an attempt to go after his perceived enemies.

This is also a matter of concern New York Times Opinion by renowned conservative legal scholar and retired federal appellate court judge Michael Luttig. He says this in his opinion piece: “There can be no higher duty of American citizens than to decisively disown a man who betrayed the nation when he was previously entrusted with the highest office in the land, and now threatens to persecute American citizens who crossed him. For almost 250 years since the founding of the nation. No president before Donald Trump has ever betrayed America like this. Judge Michael Luttig joins us. Judge, thank you very much for being here.

“What Donald Trump said last night about Liz Cheney. His allies have explained this in the past and will likely explain it since he doesn’t really mean what he says. What danger do you see in hearing him talk about his enemies like that?” – Bolduan asked Luttig.

“These despicable words uttered by the Republican nominee for President, whom Americans will either elect or reject as the next President of the United States of America in just five days, were reprehensible. They are unprecedented. I can’t tell you how many emails and messages I got this morning that just said, ‘Oh my God,'” Luttig responded. “And the only response I could think of to those messages about Kate was, ‘Yes, oh my God!'”

He continued:

Every citizen in this country, especially Republicans, owes it to themselves and to America to watch the video from last night, as I did before arriving this morning, and ponder these un-American words from Donald Trump before they vote on Tuesday. . The nation is now aware, if it wasn’t already. If Americans return Donald Trump to the White House after these comments about our fellow Americans, the statements Liz Cheney would make about any of his countless enemies who voted for him will get their due.

As for his reprehensible words last night, of course, three nights ago, Vice President Harris uttered the strongest words that anyone running against Donald Trump could ever utter. She said: I will give up a seat at the table to those who disagree with me. These are the words of the US President. These were words that Americans, especially Republicans and independents, need to hear and desperately want to hear from their next president.

“In your article, Judge, you said that this was an easy decision for voters. Why do you think the race is so close then? Bolduan followed him.

“This is beyond me at this point, Kate. I’ll say it. Long before the treacherous last night commentsI’m just talking about people, about people, Katya, and not about politics. I couldn’t understand how or why any woman in America would vote for Donald Trump,” Luttig responded, concluding:

For all the disgusting reasons we all know too well, they appointed Donald Trump as their standard bearer. I think the Republican Party has created the perfect storm to elect America’s first female president, and I fully expect women in America to elect Kamala Harris, that first female president, this coming Tuesday. And, Kate, if we ever needed a female president, it’s now.
