Mum received humiliating message after son brought condom to school

When Hudson Starnes found a mysterious object in his pants pocket, the five-year-old boy approached his kindergarten teacher, wanting to know more.

“At first he thought it was a glow stick,” Hudson’s mom, Crystal Starnes, said. TODAY.comnoting that she and her husband run a nightclub in Missouri and often bring home little trinkets for their children.

But it wasn’t a glow stick, and Starnes received a text from school later that day.

“Good morning! Let me first say that Hudson is NOT in trouble for this lol!” began the little boy’s teacher. “He came up to me before recess and pulled it out of his pocket, asking what it was.”

“I didn’t tell him what it was, I’ll just get rid of it and let him know we found it!” she added.

The object in question? Condom still in package.

“My first thought was, ‘Where did this even come from?’ says Starnes. The mom of six had her tubes tied shortly after Hudson was born. His older brothers and sisters are between 15 and 35 years old.

Starnes has one theory: Hudson was wearing new jeans from Walmart.

“I’m guessing the teenager was acting out and pocketing the condom, but we’re not 100% sure,” she says. “We asked him, ‘Did you find this on the playground?’ And he said, “No, I just put my hand in my pocket.”

After Starnes made a TikTok video about Hudson’s interesting find, others shared their stories in the comments.

“I asked a preschooler to bring one of his mom’s pads and asked me why his mom keeps Pop Tarts in her bathroom and I keep snacks in my bathroom too,” one teacher wrote.

Other reactions included:

  • “Too funny. I’m a 3rd grade teacher and one of my students brought me a bag of party stuff. The bag contained napkins, plates and a pregnancy test.”
  • “My son brought a tampon this year. He is six years old.”
  • “My second grader told his teacher that I was driving drunk. Water. I always have water in the car so we can drink.”
  • “Well, my 4-year-old grandson found mine… on the nightstand. he walks around a living room filled with people and rubs his forehead.”
  • “My daughter, when she was little, took a cake out of my purse and handed it to my unsuspecting hairdresser.”
  • “My son, now 24, told his first-grade teacher that I taped him to the floor and force-fed him scrambled eggs.”

Much to Starnes’ relief, Hudson quickly lost interest in the condom. Starnes wasn’t ready for the birds and the bees conversation.

“He never brought it up again!” she says. “He moved on.”
