A satirical statement in graphic form intended to make it appear as if it came from a former president. Donald Trump An image of Trump criticizing New York officials for euthanizing Peanut the Squirrel, a rescued squirrel that became a social media sensation on Instagram, TikTok and other platforms, went viral Saturday. The fake image attracted so much attention that even made by TMZ.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) confirmed this week that two animals were euthanized after their owner Mark Longoit turned out that they had been confiscated. Along with Peanut the squirrel, Fred the raccoon was also taken into custody during the raid and later euthanized.

“They treated me like I was a drug dealer and they were going for drugs and guns,” Longo told the publication. Associated Press after his home was searched.

The agency said they raided the home after receiving “multiple reports from the public regarding the potentially unsafe keeping of wild animals that may carry rabies and the illegal keeping of wild animals as pets.”

The statement, attributed to Trump and his campaign, went extremely viral on X, spawning jokes and comments, including from experts such as Megyn Kelly and other EJPs there is a lot of humor in this statement.

One line in particular stung: “If Peanut could tell them he was from Mexico, they would send him on his way, give him a hotel room and a $500 gift card to Buddy Squirrel. Instead, he was taken from his family.”

Here is the text of the satirical statement on the image:

There were terrifying reports from New York, my former home state, that environmental agents had raided the home of Mark Longo and his wife. Mark was held in custody for several hours while officials searched his home and eventually took away their two pets, Fred the raccoon and Peanut the squirrel. These animals were later executed in New York State.

New York City, under its terrible governor, put more effort into killing the squirrel, which by all accounts was innocent, than into controlling the out-of-control illegal immigrants that were infesting the state. If Peanut could tell them he was from Mexico, they would send him on his way, give him a hotel room and a $500 gift card to Buddy Squirrel. Instead, he was taken from his family. Very sad and a waste of resources! When we win, we will prioritize and MAGA!

In an Instagram post, Longo blamed the animal abductions on the “selfishness” of the Internet.

“Well, Internet, you WIN. You took one of the most amazing animals from me because of your selfishness. For the group of people who called DEC, there is a special place in hell for you,” he wrote.
