Bermuda’s aspiring triathletes will have the opportunity to compete against seniors in tomorrow’s rescheduled Liberty Mutual Mixed Team Relay National Championships at Clearwater Beach in St David.

The event, which was postponed due to thunderstorms in September, marks the end of the triathlon season on the island.

Competitions are held for age groups from seven to 10 and 11+. Junior athletes will take part in a 100-meter swim, a 5-kilometre bike ride and a 1-kilometre run. Men’s, women’s and mixed categories are the categories for this specific age group.

For children 11+ – swimming 300 meters, cycling 10 kilometers and running 2 kilometers. There are five categories for this age group: men’s, women’s, mixed, corporate and family.

In the 11+ group, the combination of Bermuda gold medal winners at the Carifta Triathlon and Aquathlon Championships in Barbados, Naomi McGuinness and Sanchez Smith, is worth watching.

Jackson Langley has teamed up with Dylan Eiselt, Marie-Lyn Dore and Yann Leclerc are also in the running along with the Bortoli siblings Gianluca and Karina, while veteran pair Will Green and Alex Waldauer will be favorites.

Jake Smith was scheduled to compete against his father Jeff, but an Achilles problem forced the elder Smith to withdraw. This left the 17-year-old, who was the second best man on Cambridge Beaches, looking for a partner.

The 7-10 scoreline is expected to be dominated by Horrobin brothers Liam and Nolan, who finished one-two in the Cambridge Beaches triathlon last Sunday. They should provide good competition to the pairing of Chloe Durkin and Elliot Davidge, as well as the combination of Matthew Howe and Adrian Myers.

The event will begin at 2:00 pm, allowing talented athletes to pursue other sports earlier in the day. Langley, Eiselt, Smith and others also signed up to compete in a mountain bike race on the South Shore Beach trails.
