The son of a former Premier League striker scored a 20-minute hat-trick to inspire his side to a 5-0 win… and he only came on at half-time!

Manchester City remained top of Premier League 2’s Under-21 Academy Development League on Friday night with a thumping 5-0 win over Norwich.

The home team led 1-0 at half-time thanks to Emilio Lawrence’s strike, but crushed their opponents in the second half.

The devastating scoreline had a lot to do with the son of the former Premier League striker, who was replaced by goalscorer Lawrence at half-time.

Within 20 minutes, the striker scored a hat-trick to give Manchester City a 4–0 lead.

He then provided the assist to complete the win and keep Manchester City top of the table.

It capped a remarkable week for Reagan Heskey, one of the sons of former Premier League and England striker Emile.

Earlier this week, Reagan achieved a stunning AFL hurling feat before he and his brother Jayden helped Manchester City win a penalty shootout.

His impact was even more devastating on Friday night as he scored his first goal two minutes after arriving, showing his poacher’s instincts by scoring with a cross from close range.

The goal was the 16-year-old’s first at Premier League 2 level as he continues his progression through the Under-18s, where he has six goals and four assists in seven appearances.

His second goal soon followed, finishing in the 53rd minute with a calm shot into the far corner.

The hat-trick was completed when Regan’s right-footed shot was only able to hit the net by the Norwich goalkeeper.

A fine evening’s work was capped by a last-minute assist from Will Dixon as Manchester City secured their seventh straight win in the competition.

Regian downplayed his position after the match when he told Manchester City that it had been a “good game”.

“I went out and made an impact and that’s what I try to do every time, so it was a good performance,” he said.

“Every team wants to be top of the table, you want to win every game week after week.

“The pressure of them (other teams) supporting us gives us the motivation to play well every week.”

His brother Jayden also played the entire match in midfield on Friday night.

Reagan will strive to follow in the footsteps of his father Emil, who is A Premier League legend who scored 110 goals in 516 appearances for the likes of Leicester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Heskey also overcame setback after setback to retain his place in the national team, eventually ending his career with 62 caps.

Having lost his place after a disappointing Euro 2004 campaign, the striker convinced his club’s squad to return to the England squad, making a shock comeback for Fabio Capello’s side at the 2010 World Cup.

During his time with the Newcastle Jets in Australia in 2012, Emil’s sons Jayden and Reagan, then aged four and six, could be seen stealing the show on the pitch after matches, wearing special T-shirts that read ” Hesky.”

Their father is now head of football development for Leicester City women’s team, having previously served as the team’s interim coach.

Earlier this year, Heskey was ordered to pay a bill of almost £200,000 in legal costs following a lengthy dispute with HMRC over an unpaid tax bill dating back to 2019.

Regan hopes his amazing form will continue into midweek when Manchester City take on Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Youth League.
