City of Calgary receives crosswalk to honor veterans

A local organization wants to create a permanent reminder of Canadians’ sacrifices in war.

Homes for Heroes and the Forest Lawn Community Association are considering painting the crosswalk to honor veterans.

This will be 36 SE Street, near the Veterans Village.

Gar Gar, president of the community association, cites other cities that have created year-round reminders about the importance of veterans.

“It means so much,” Gar Gar said, “because the voices of veterans in many cases are not heard. And this is essentially an opportunity to say that your voice has been heard and that your voices matter, and we hope that happens.”

Gar says they approached the city with the idea and received a positive response within a day or two.
