WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg announced Saturday that he will wrestle his retirement match in 2025.

Appearance on the SEC Network SEC NationGoldberg said he had reached an agreement with WWE to stage his final match next year:

“Here’s the news of the day,” Goldberg said. “The news of the day involves three executives: (President) Nick Hahn, (Executive Vice President of Talent Relations) Chris Legentil and (Head of Creative) Paul (Triple H) Levesque, Goldberg will have a retirement match in 2025.”

Goldberg noted that no date or event had been chosen for his retirement match, but he hinted that his opponent would be World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, calling him a “favorite” who would be his “victim.”

At Bad Blood last month, Goldberg was one of several WWE legends in attendance and was the target of criticism from Gunther.

After The Ring General told Goldberg he was kidding when he recently called him his favorite WWE Superstar of all time, he also questioned Goldberg’s parenting while sitting next to his son.

This prompted Goldberg to jump the fence and pursue Gunther, but security intervened and defused the situation.

After this confrontation, WrestleVotes (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported that WWE has plans for a Goldberg promotion, likely involving Gunther.

Goldberg is 57 years old and hasn’t wrestled a match since losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in February 2022, but given his status as one of the most dominant and popular figures in wrestling history, this could be a good retirement match business for WWE.

While Goldberg, who will retire in 2025, appears to have ruled out Survivor Series later this month, a match against Gunther could be in the cards for the Royal Rumble in February or even WrestleMania 41 in April.
