Meet Press Moderator Kristen Welker talks with Governor Burgum, KFYR-TV interview

BISMARCK, N.D. (KUR) – On Friday, our political reporter Justin Gick had the opportunity to speak with NBC’s “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker to discuss her upcoming interview with Gov. Doug Burgum.

Geek: Joining me now is Kristen Welker, moderator of NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Kristen, thanks for joining me…

Welker: Justin, great to be with you!

Geek: Kristen, you’ll be meeting with our Governor Doug Bergum this Sunday. How does the governor’s continued support of former President Trump help his campaign?

Welker: “Look, Governor Doug Burgum is someone who is seen as a steady voice, someone who is not just the governor of an important state, but a moderate who helps former President Trump explain some of his policies, especially when it comes to the economy and energy, and these are of course some of the top issues for voters, the economy is really at the top of the list and he is a key Trump ally. Remember, frankly, he was shortlisted as a potential running mate for Trump and was not chosen as his running mate, but you remember during the convention when Trump called him out on breaking the terms of the news, he called him Mr. Secretary. So the big question looming over this election: If Trump wins, will he choose Gov. Doug Burgum to serve in his cabinet? So, we’ll be interested in talking to Governor Burgum about how he sees these final days of the race, what’s the strategy for this final sprint?”

Geek: “And you’ve interviewed Governor Burgum several times over the past few months. What are you hoping to push on him this Sunday?”

Welker: “I think we’ll be talking with Governor Burgum about a number of issues. We’ll talk to him about the latest developments in the race. remember we will have new poll results so we will know his reaction to the new poll results. We’ll get his reaction to everything we saw and heard on the campaign trail last week, and we’ll get his reaction to what Trump needs to do if he wants to win? Trump’s final message was that Vice President Harris broke it, he’s going to fix it, but he, as you know, often veers off course at his campaign rallies, talks about other things. Does Governor Burgum think this is a winning strategy? What he wants to hear in these final days of the race is something he will have a lot to discuss with Governor Burgum.”

Geek: “Kristen, thanks so much for joining me, and good luck covering election night.”

Welker: “Nice to be with you. Thank you.”
