Guyanese kidnapped, Brazilians rescued; criminals escape from joint services – Demerara Waves Online News – Guyana

Four Guyanese and six Brazilians were abducted on Saturday morning in deep southern Rupununi and abandoned after members of the Guyana Joint Service pursued the suspects, the Guyana Police said on Saturday afternoon.

“A joint services team at the scene pursued the suspects, who abandoned their vehicle along with the abducted persons, and they were all rescued unharmed,” police said.

An initial police statement said the unidentified kidnappers were masked and armed with firearms when they robbed the Guyanese and Brazilians at the Guyanese Geology and Mining Commission (GGMC) Bush Mouth substation in Marudi in the deep south around 11am. Rupununi in Region Nine (Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo).

The Guyana Police did not immediately specify in which country the vehicle in which the abductees and kidnappers were traveling at the time of the interception was allegedly registered.

There was also no information provided on where the vehicle was intercepted, how the suspects managed to evade Guyana Combined Services officers or what was allegedly stolen.
