Vikings activate Dalton Risner from injured reserve.

Vikings activated security Dalton Risner off injured reserve heading into Week 9 against the Colts, giving them more options on the offensive line as they struggle Christian Darrisaw‘s season-ending injury.

Darrisaw’s absence left a hole at Minnesota’s left tackle spot, and the team traded for Cam Robinson to fill the void of last week. But the Vikings’ head coach Kevin O’Connell refused to name Robinson as his new starter ahead of Week 9, according to Ben Goessling of the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Blake Brandelwho received the position of left back after Risner injured his back in training campStarted three times at left tackle in 2022, totaling 273 snaps at the position over five games. He could return to the field, and Risner would regain his spot at left guard, where he started 11 games for Minnesota last year.

“I’m very happy Dalton is available,” O’Connell said Friday, according to Goessling. “He knows he has my trust and will be ready to act when called upon.”

The Vikings could also draft a veteran David Quessenberry start at left tackle if they want to keep their current offensive line but don’t feel Robinson is ready to start.

However, the Vikings general manager’s quick move Kwesi Adofo-Mensah The acquisition of Robinson after Darrisaw’s injury suggests Minnesota intends to get him into the starting lineup as quickly as possible. Ideally, he would be a one-for-one replacement for Darrisaw without causing any other changes to the offensive line.

The Vikings also placed a quarterback Taki Taimani on injured reserve, opening up a roster spot for Risner to be activated. Minnesota also used a standard practice roster upgrade at defensive lineman. Jalen Redmond at 9 weeks.
