Dylan Larkin and Cam Talbot shine as Red Wings stop falling

DETROIT — A gaffe by Dylan Larkin cost the Detroit Red Wings a goal in the first period, and then he made up for it in the second with a pair of power plays.

Larkin’s offense and Cam Talbot’s 30 saves lifted the Red Wings to a 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabers at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday.

The Red Wings (5-5-1) ended a three-game skid (0-2-1).

Larkin tied the game at 7:49 of the second after Patrick Kane stole the puck from Mattias Samuelsson and fed Larkin from the side of the net. Larkin gave his team the lead at 14:38 when he took a pass from Alex DeBrincat and fired home his seventh goal.

The Sabers fell to 4-7-1.

Buffalo led 1-0 after one period on Alex Tuch’s shorthanded breakaway goal at 11:39. He stole the puck from Larkin at center ice and skated alone.

The Red Wings face the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday (8 p.m., TNT).
