“Everything is back to normal”

“Everything is back to normal”

Conspiracy theories can be dangerous because the spread of misinformation affects our ability to make beneficial changes that could make our planet a much better place to live.

In a Reddit thread dedicated to conspiracy theories, someone added collection of screenshots from a report by Kashif Khan linking flooding in North Carolina during Hurricane Helen to potential lithium mining in the state.

Khan’s post claimed that Piedmont Lithium was eyeing Gaston County for mining activity, and flooding the area would lower land prices and save the company money if it expanded into North Carolina. Photographs of flooded and damaged areas were provided for illustration.

Besides the fact that hurricanes cannot be controlled by humansThis means that no one could have “brought” floods to the area, some Reddit users also pointed out a noticeable and fatal flaw in Khan’s proposal.

“Except Gaston County is in the Charlotte metro area and was not flooded, and the photos were taken from Asheville, an hour and a half away.” one user said. “Oh!”

“I live in Gaston, less than 2 miles from the proposed mine,” one more added. “Some trees were knocked down. We lost electricity for several days, but now everything is normal.”

It’s not surprising that some people may become fascinated by conspiracy theories as they search for answers in a rapidly changing world. However, such unsubstantiated claims can cause real harm.

How CBS in detailAnother conspiracy theory that followed Helen attempted to suggest that the government wanted to claim land in Chimney Rock, North Carolina for mining activity, and damage to the area would make this easier. However, Rutherford County Emergency Management said the rumors are “completely false.”

Meanwhile, as the US election approaches, some have sought to blame Democrats for the damage in historically Republican areas. Marjorie Taylor Greene an ardent representative of this theory.

Experts and officials have tried to refute this assumption.

Misinformation and fear can hinder people critically assessing the root causes of these problems. Hurricanes, for example, were scientifically proven that it gets worse as a result of global warming caused by human activities.

If people believe that the government or large corporations “control” the weather, this hinders efforts to reduce the production of planet-warming pollutants. extreme weather conditions are more intense and prolonged.
