Life skills education in schools is vital, says Naivalurua – FBC News

MP Ioane Naivalurua is highlighting the urgent need for life skills education in schools to equip young people with the tools to fight drugs.

Speaking during the Speaker’s debate on drugs, he emphasized that prevention must begin as early as possible and continue consistently throughout students’ development.

He adds that this will effectively combat drug use, which often begins in adolescence.

“A review of the most effective programs shows that they are based on life skills education that goes beyond drug use and equips the child with broader life skills and social resilience. I teach kids how to say no to drugs and why to say no to drugs, not just once, but over and over again.”

Naivalurua argues that an ongoing, structured approach to prevention in schools will help strengthen young people’s ability to make informed and healthy decisions.
