Plan to build houses in Corby on former Co-op site rejected

Labor councilor Alison Dalziel, who sat on the committee, said the site needed regeneration because it was an “absolute council”.

But she struggled to name any other six-storey building in Corby and said: “To have something as imposing and dense as it looks – I just don’t think it’s right for what is actually quite small. piece of land.”

She added: “To think that there are 350 to 400 people living on this piece of land doesn’t make sense to me.”

Patrick Boyle, director of Glenrowan Homes, said: “Corby needs housing.

“We have people in our office who commute from Derby every day because they can’t find rented accommodation.

“We share the council’s view that a landmark building should be built on this site.”

In its refusal, the committee cited overdevelopment, high population density and the likely impact on neighboring residents.
