Chalobah talks about his first goal at Palace – News

The on-loan defender took full advantage of Wolves’ defensive confusion to put Palace ahead just after the hour mark, setting off a quick exchange of goals that saw the points shared after a 2-2 draw.

Describing his first shot against Palace, Chalobah explained: “I saw there was a gap and I knew the goalkeeper was on the far side – so I just had to keep it as low as possible and make good contact.”

In the context of his team’s wider performance – Palace completed a busy three-match week unbeaten in all of them – he added: “It’s been a tough week for us – three games in a week – but I think the boys really gave it their best and showed our levels in all games.

“The Tottenham game (1-0 win) helped us gain confidence going into Aston Villa, where there was always room to go. We won there (2-1) and we should have played a little better today, but it’s better than losing.

“We had a lot of chances to kill the game and obviously in these types of games, if you don’t kill the game they will have chances. We let them in – my mistake, which I’m learning from myself – and we’ll take the draw and go again next week.”

Four points in a week took Palace closer to mid-table, with Chalobah describing his side’s progress in the first 10 games of the league season.

He admitted: “It was a tough start for us. I felt like we’ve played well in most of the games this season but we just haven’t had the end result in goals, but I think it’s starting to come and we’re starting to have faith.

“We’ve also had a few injuries but the boys are digging in well and the players coming in are doing a good job.

“I think we all know the manager’s idea and how he wants to play and we are all on the same path. “
