Harvey Epstein seems to have taken his newfound national attention in stride.

The state legislator, who is currently the Democratic candidate for the New York City Council, has come under fire. Saturday Night Live I’ll draw it this weekend. In the November 2 episode, the host John Mulaney made fun of a local politician’s first and last name, each of which is the same as that of a convicted sex offender, Harvey Weinstein And Jeffrey Epstein.

In the parody ad campaign, Mulaney (as Epstein) jokes that his name isn’t “ideal” because he shares it with “two of the most famous sex deviants of all time” and insists he’s “the other guy.”

“But I won’t lie. The name issue has become a bit of an issue,” Mulaney, 42, said in the sketch. “I could almost handle Harvey, but Epstein, this thing is an albatross.”

As the parody ad continued, Mulaney could be seen trying to convince New Yorkers that he wasn’t the guy they thought he was.

“Now I really want to emphasize that I’m not him and I’m not him,” Mulaney said at one point, pointing to photos of Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein. “They’re different people from each other, and they definitely didn’t come together to form one personality in me. This never happened.”

The sketch ended with an unfortunate slogan – “Together we can make this town Epstein’s Island” – before Epstein Mulaney said people “shouldn’t call it that.”

The sketch seemed to go down well with the real Harvey Epstein, who shared his thoughts on Sunday, November 3, via X (formerly Twitter)writing that he agreed with Mulaney’s opinion.

“I agree with John @mulaney … let’s not call it Epstein Island,” he wrote.

In a subsequent post, the politician used his platform – and additional attention from SNL – encourage your followers to contribute to the National Network on Rape, Abuse and Incest. “All kidding aside, I hope my newfound followers will consider donating to @RAINNwho do extremely valuable work supporting survivors,” he wrote.

The assembly member also spoke with City and State about the sketch, calling it “a little weird” to see Mulaney play it and adding that he thought it would make people “better understand who I am.”

“It’s very important that I have fun with the joke and also take the issues of domestic violence seriously,” he said, later adding that Mulaney’s look seemed to match his own.

“John Mulaney wore earrings, he had a bald head, he wore clothes that I wear a lot – so I think he got those things right,” he said.
