Quantum computing will have a major impact on marketing, says Citi CMO Alex Craddock

Below is a transcript of the video.

Alex Craddock: I think, look, other than the AI generation, the only other one that’s on my radar, just because probably the AI generation is so overwhelming at this point that it’s hard to think about what’s next, I think is quantum computing.

I think it’s about the speed and impact you can have. I think if we all think about the AI generation and what we’re doing today – I’m dabbling with ChatGPT on my phone, we’re starting to see it integrated into our iPhones – but beyond that, it’s probably not as obvious in our life. I think we’ll see a level of personalization that I’m not sure we’ll fully appreciate.

So, if I had to go to a crazy place, and I’m kind of going to a crazy place, I make it up – imagine if you were walking past a billboard, and that billboard actually changed to reflect the fact that it’s knew. was you because it got the signal from your phone, from the geolocation, it was able to process the data at such a speed that the ads you saw were actually very personalized to you.

I think this is the level of personalization that we are about to enter. And if you start scaling that across everything we do, not just marketing and how we interact with branded content, we’re going to enter into a really interesting world where we could all live in a world that’s a little different from the person next to us. And whether it’s on our TVs, in our hands, on billboards, wherever we spend our time, I think that’s where we’re headed. It’s either exciting or scary. I think it’s quite interesting.

Over the last five months, having a team of thought leaders in my group, you can imagine that I have a group of really smart people who are very focused on the future, which allows me to be much more aware of what’s going to happen and the speed. when some of these new technologies emerge and quantum computing doesn’t seem so far away.

And I think it will be a phenomenal game changer when you really combine something like generative artificial intelligence with quantum computing, and the power that you can create will fundamentally change our lives.

That’s probably still three to five years away, but I think it’s going to happen a lot faster than we thought. Again, out of curiosity, I’m trying to learn quantum computing, which is something I never thought I’d have to do as a marketer, but here we go. It goes back to the breadth of the role we have now. It’s exciting, but I’m glad I have some really smart people on my team who can help me become more aware of this and make me more educated than my own curiosity, which is great.
