Supreme Court allows Siddique Kappan to relax bail conditions

Supreme Court was released on bail in September 2022 Kappan in a case filed against him by the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police under the aegis of UAPA.

Kappan, Reporter, Malayalam News Portal Azhimuham and secretary of the Delhi chapter of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), was arrested along with three others in Uttar Pradesh in October 2020 while on his way to Hathras to report the gang rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit man. girl.

The prosecution alleges that Kappan was traveling to Hathras with the intention of disturbing the harmony in the area. and raising funds to launch a website full of misinformation inciting violence.

Authorities alleged that Kappan had close links with the extremist organization Popular Front of India (PFI) and was part of a larger conspiracy to incite religious hatred and spread terror in the country.

Apart from UAPA, he has also been booked for money laundering under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and has been lodged in Lucknow jail since December 2020.

In the UAPA case, the lower courts and the Allahabad High Court denied him bail and then the apex court. granted him release in September 2022.

He was in the PMLA case released on bail by Allahabad High Court in December 2022.

He was eventually released from Lucknow Central Jail. in February 2023.
