Ms Sakala said although she was nervous competing against hundreds of women, she decided to just be herself.

She said: “Just taking part was special, but winning one of the awards made it even more unforgettable.”

After the pageant Ms Sakala went straight back to her cleaning business but said she wanted to use her experience as a Miss Africa GB pageant to help other women.

“One of my main goals was to convey the message to women of all ages that they can do wonderful things if they put their mind to it,” she said.

“I am immensely grateful to have been able to represent Reading and come back with more energy and drive to continue to make a difference in my home town.”
