Chiefs Nominate Mitch Holthus for NFL Salute to Service Award

Chiefs Nominate Mitch Holthus for NFL Salute to Service Award

The Kansas City Chiefs have nominated longtime play-by-play voice Mitch Holthus for the 2024 NFL Salute to Service Award. The annual award, a collaboration between the NFL and USAA, recognizes NFL players, coaches, staff and alumni who have dedicated their time to honoring and supporting the U.S. military.

That’s why the team decided to nominate Holthus for the award this year (via NFL press release):

Mitch Holthus, the most accomplished and most decorated voice in Kansas City Chiefs history, was born to do two things: become an industry standard as one of the NFL’s most recognizable broadcasters, and passionately support and honor those with ties to armed forces. Holthus was born in Fort Lewis, Washington, while his father, El Dean, was serving in the U.S. Army. As a result, its focus is on respecting, empowering and connecting with military personnel and their families.

Holthus empowers military members through his work with groups including The Battle Within, an organization whose mission is to break down barriers and provide all veterans and first responders with the mental and behavioral health support they need. Additionally, he developed active relationships at Fort Leonard Wood, visiting the 5th Engineer Suicide Battalion.

He honors the military by visiting Leavenworth National Cemetery and sharing stories with various Gold Star families and active duty military personnel. He has an uncanny ability to connect those who serve our great country with their beloved leaders. He organized various goodwill visits to military bases throughout the region, including emceeing numerous draft day celebrations at Whiteman Air Force Base and Fort Riley. He speaks at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

These initiatives, as well as countless other interactions with those who serve our country, are among the many reasons why Mitch Holthus is the Chiefs’ nominee for the 2024 Salute to Service Award presented by USAA.

Finalists for the Salute to Service Award will be announced in January and the recipient will be recognized on NFL Honors, a special primetime awards ceremony broadcast nationwide during the week of Super Bowl LIX. This year, fans have the opportunity to vote for their favorite nominee, which will help determine the three finalists for the award.

To vote for Holthus, Chiefs fans can visit NFL.com/SaluteFanVote until November 30. Allowed one vote per day per fan.
