Helicopter helps rescuers rescue fishermen stranded during high tide

A lifeboat crew rescued two stranded fishermen and a dog on a Cornwall beach with the help of a coastguard helicopter.

The men were cut off by high tides near Lushington Beach in Portthewan on Sunday, with an eyewitness saying one man fell onto rocks and dislocated his shoulder.

A helicopter from Newquay, which was in the area on training, spotted the men at about 1630 GMT and alerted colleagues.

Tom Bolt, from Falmouth coastguard, said RNLI rescuers from Portthewan used a coastal boat to rescue the people before a helicopter paramedic assessed them while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
