Runswick Bay: RNLI warning after casualties cut by high tide

Redcar RNLI Volunteer Lifeboat crews further down the coast also responded to reports of casualties from high tide on the same day.

Volunteer Helm Lee Jackson said: “The victims did exactly the right thing by calling 999 and asking for the coastguard when they realized they had been cut off.”

An RNLI spokesman said it was important to prioritize safety when visiting the beach.

“Check the tide tables and watch the direction of the tide to avoid getting cut off,” they said.

“At high tide, moving up the beach may not be enough to stay safe. For example, if you go around a rocky outcrop, rising water can quickly block your way back.”
