Tennessee fashion event to feature first wheelchair model

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A new model at Nashville Luxury Fashion Week later this month hopes to inspire you to chase your dreams, no matter your odds.

Kim Brock is only 36 years old and has quite the resume.

“I was born with cerebral palsy and have never let my disability limit my life,” Brock said. “I homeschool my two beautiful daughters: Madeline, 11, and Maggie Mae, six. I am also a member of the South Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities.”

She is always looking for the next challenge. As Brock discovered showmanship, she found a new voice as Miss Southeast Wheelchair USA.

“The success and recognition I received meant a lot to me,” Brock said. “This is more than just a title and crowns. It’s about amplifying my voice and representing people with disabilities in a way that breaks stereotypes.”

Brock is on fire. Earlier this year, she was one of the first wheelchair models to walk the runway at New York Fashion Week; she’s going to do it again, this time in Music City. It’s an honor she’s using to bring awareness to inclusivity.

“I hope this sparks further conversations about accessibility and diversity in fashion, and inspires others to follow their dreams, no matter the challenges they face,” Brock said. “I hope to encourage people, especially people with disabilities, to embrace their uniqueness and follow their passions.”

One of Brock’s hobbies is fitness. When she’s not on stage, she’s walking, hiking, biking or swimming.

“Too often people with disabilities are overlooked when it comes to fitness and wellness, and I want to change that perception. My message is simple. Wellness is available to everyone. Activism can lead to transformation. Not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. And everyone deserves to experience the benefits of an active lifestyle,” Brock said.

Following her runway appearance at Luxe Fashion Week on Nov. 17, Brock said she plans to visit every state she represents to inspire those she advocates for.

“For me, it’s about showing people that beauty comes in all forms and that every person, regardless of ability, should have the opportunity to express themselves,” Brock said.
