Trump tells hurricane victims to ‘sit back and relax’ at sparsely attended North Carolina rally

Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney responded to former President Donald Trump’s attacks on her in an interview with ABC’s The View on Monday, including a remark he made in which he suggested she “put a gun in her face.”

“He knows what he’s doing,” Chaney said. “He knows it’s a threat with intent to intimidate. Obviously, intimidation won’t work.”

Cheney highlighted Trump’s history of violent rhetoric, including how he responded to the Jan. 6 violence.

“For more than three hours he watched the police being brutally beaten. They told him the vice president had been evacuated and he said, ‘So what?'” Cheney said. “People rushed in, begging him, ‘Tell the crowd to leave,’ but he wouldn’t.”

“This level of depravity, he knows he has no defense against it, and he knows the American people will no longer trust anyone with power who would do something so cruel,” she continued. “And so because he can’t answer that, he tries to change the subject, he tries to make threats. This is what autocrats do to silence their political opponents.”
